The Unending Roles of Libraries in the Promotion of Reading Culture in the Nigeria.
Reading is an integral part of our lifelong learning. It is an essential and vital skill for a lifelong education of the Nigerian child. It is the overall social, political and economic development of the citizenry. In our present situation, it has been observed that the Nigerian child have a very poor reading culture and skills and all efforts aimed at the promotion of good reading culture in the Nigerian child have suffered set backs. The need to intensify efforts in the inculcation of good reading culture and habit in our children is a task that must be done. Libraries and librarians have major roles to play in the inculcation of good reading habits through a good philosophical and good education for the promotion of a good reading culture in the Nigerian child is imperative. The paper therefore focuses on the factors affecting reading culture of the Nigerian child, strategies for improving and enhancing good reading skills and habits among the Nigerian children and the unending roles of libraries and librarians in the inculcation of good reading habits in the children especially in this present economic dispensation.
